Dead and Dying Town

It's confiscated all my thoughts
Tied my stomach into knots
Just want to feel alright
Left in the dark
Looking for a light
It's hard to care
Stuck in the middle of nowhere
Dead and dying town
I'm sick and tired of lying down
I just can't hang around
Feels like I'm already in the ground
And what I haves no good
Now it's easily understood
That once good things are gone
It might be time to move along
I just want to feel free
I've got to leave
Uproot my tree
And create something new
And try and use my outer blues
Because my days
Here are just overcast and grey
Dead and dying town
I'm sick and tired of lying down
I just can't hang around
Feels like I'm already in the ground
And now big city lights
Glint like a hook I want to bite
And now my shoes feel sore
I'm smiling
So much to explore
This sense of freedom feels so strange
Sitting watching the scenery change
Yeah freedom feels so strange
So strange
Strange

Urban Myths About Eagles

I'm constantly dreaming
I'm pleasantly scheming
I'm looking out for number one
On the run
With a pocketful of grapes
And an ape on my back
Trying to keep on track
Now I'm reading the paper
With a wit like a rapier
I'm a late night talk show host in my head
Said a joke so subtle
No time for rebuttal
Because the guest didn't understand
A word I said
Relax your mind
And let it flow
You just might find
It starts to grow
When you feel the feeling coming
Building up inside your head
Take a stand
And go where you are lead
Where you are lead
Even when your boots feel
Like they're made of lead
This life's so demanding
And in need of re-branding
So I sand down the edges
So the pain's less sharp
A harp somewhere so distant plays
A mellow mood
Melodious phrase
I have misgivings
About the way, I've been living
About the things that I've said
And haven't said
My head gets so heavy
There's a break in the levy
Water in my mind
Making me go blind
Relax your mind
And let it flow
You just might find
It starts to grow
And when you don't agree
With anything you used to do
Pack it up and start anew
Yeah start anew
When you don't agree
With anything you used to do

Closer to the Light

I'm waiting for the axe to fall
In this endless peer review
I'm going to be there watching
When they tighten the screw
All my bad habits hold me tight
And lead me closer to the light
Pick up the slack
Pick up the bill
Pick up the skin I shed
I hold me in my arms
I hold me lifeless
I hold me dead
All my past lives
They hold me tight
And lead me closer to the light
My friends they whisper things
The crows all tell me what was said
I am alone at home
With the covers pulled up
Around my head
All of these rumours grip me tight
And lead me closer to the light
They lead me closer
They lead me close
I'm waiting for the axe to fall
In this endless peer review
I'm going to be there watching
When they tighten the screw
All my bad habits hold me tight
And lead me closer to the light
They lead me closer
They lead me closer

Please Don't Go Insane

Talk is cheap
and so am I
most of the things I've said
even I don't buy
Although I've never stepped
in the the same river twice
both times my shoes got soaked
and that didn't feel too nice
Take it easy while you can man
because things can change too quick to plan
Talk is cheap
action is rich
follow through is important
if you want to hit that pitch
when the sun is setting
something else gets lit
I take a deep breath
yeah I take a hit
If you go off the deep end
make sure that you can swim
some people never come up
some lights go forever dim
Always test your limits
but don't take a heroic dose
because there is nothing heroic
about being dead or comatose
Talk is cheap
please don't go insane

colouring outside Saint Pierre and Miquelon
Little is known about this Miquelon power-pop band. They played a handful of shows at the all-ages venue the Moon Snail (?) to moderate acclaim and released the cassette ep "the lines" on their own coquille label in 1984. A dispute between recordist Johnni "JJ" DesRogiers and bassist Mikie led to the destruction of the adat masters. A rough cassette dub from the abortive lp sessions survives. ... more
